The Awakening Foundation was established by Al Reem Al Tenaiji in 2011 with the aim of redressing inequality and promote the personal development and wellbeing of people all over the world.

Al Reem’s goal is to help as many people as possible to reach their full potential, empowering them to create lasting change within themselves, and their communities.

Over the past eight years, The Awakening Foundation has opened schools Madagascar, India, Pakistan and Seychelles; supported orphanages, mental health facilities and special needs centres in India and built hospitals, water stations and medical facilities in India, Kyrgyzstan and across Africa. It has provided micro-finance to grass-roots businesses in Kitale and Mombasa Kenya, helping widows to earn a living for themselves and their children, and funded community-level programs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia benefiting children, youth and women.

In November 2018, the jury Committee of the International Woman Harmony Award awarded Al Reem Al Tenaiji the 2018 International Simply Woman Peace Award for her commitment to empowering women through her charitable works.

 2011
Uttar Pradesh, India

The Awakening Foundation supported the construction of new classrooms and manufactured 100 school benches for a rural school in in the Sant Ravidash Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The classes run from the 1st standard to the 10th standard and are attended by 700 students. 

2012
Tulear, Madagascar

The Awakening Foundation supported a social business for rickshaw pullers in Madagascar in the city of Tulear. The micro-loan structure allows rickshaw drivers to secure their own rickshaws over time, set-up their own businesses and be able to financially improve themselves and their families.

2013
Talas, Kyrgyzstan

More than 2,500 children, teachers and janitors from nine schools in rural Kyrgyzstan now have warm running water due to an initiative from The Awakening Foundation. Giving beneficiaries safe and comfortable hand-washing stations at their schools supports changing the public health habits in the Talas province and beyond.

Pakistan, Mombasa, India

The Awakening Foundation hosted an annual food drive during Ramadan across several different countries including Pakistan, Mombasa, and India..

2016
Punjab, Pakistan

The Awakening Foundation donated a Glucometer (a blood glucose testing kit) to The Diabetes Centre (TDC) in Punjab, the world's largest free Diabetic Centre in Pakistan. The foundation also helped the centre with an awareness campaign, reaching millions of people to help them to take charge of their diabetes.

Beijing, China

Al Reem Al Tenaiji is a Patron of Amy Yuan Academy which enables Chinese young musicians to learn from British performing arts education and cultural facilities, to visit top music, dance and drama colleges in the UK and to receive one-to-one masterclass and tuition with Royal Academy of Music professors and alumni.

Pakistan

The Awakening Foundation contributed to the Akhwat Science and Technology University and Research Centre, supporting students from all over Pakistan, selected on merit, providing exceptional quality Higher Education and residence at no cost to the students.

2017 - 2020
Pakistan

The Awakening Foundation participated in the annual convention hosted by renowned spiritual scholar Prof Rafique Akhtar, bringing together thousands of people to learn and to enlighten their spirituality.

Muthuthala, India

The Awakening Foundation set up a computer lab for a non-profit school that educates 968 children in India. This project entails new computers, digital learning programs, printer, headphones, camera and a UPS for electricity supply.

Rishikesh, India

The Awakening Foundation supported the set-up of an Education Centre for children from a slum community in Rishikesh, a town at the onset of the Indian Himalayas. This centre enables basic education support for children who attend poor quality education premises and require homework assistance.

2012 - 2015
Mauritius, Seychelles, Pakistan

The Awakening Foundation supported orphanages in Asia and Africa through child sponsorship and the provision of basic care products, books and education games. This support reached orphanages in Mauritius, Seychelles and Pakistan. 

2017
Lake Plastira, Greece

In an effort for environmental protection of the Lake Plastira region, The Awakening Foundation supported the enhancement of their Botanical Garden of 2.5 acres. Its purpose is to gather the flora elements of the region and of the Greek territory in general, to provide information and training to the public regarding the local ecosystems, and environmental protection.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

In partnership with the Give a Future charity, The Awakening Foundation supported primary and higher education scholarships and a micro-finance offering for women allowing them to start their own businesses and provide for their families.

2019
Atlas Mountain, Morocco

The Awakening Foundation supported a boarding house in Morocco to provide accommodation for more than 60 girls (aged 12-18) from the rural high atlas mountain. The facility enables them to attend secondary school and university.

2020 - present
The Doman International institute of Achievement of Human Potential, global

The Awakening Foundation has been working with the Doman International institute of Achievement of Human Potential (IAHP) to contribute to online classes, courses, seminars, and technology enhancement to educate parents about the Doman Method and provide personalised guidance to families with special needs children.
